In 2005, I shot a weekly photo column for the Connecticut Post called The Motorcycle Chronicles. For the column, I would photograph a local bike enthusiast and try to incorporate an element from their day jobs. A small profile would accompany the photograph. I tried finding a wide variety of subjects: a motorcycle mechanic, an audio-visual tech salesman, a mother, an unemployed scooter owner, a senior citizen, a limo driver, a motorcycle policeman, etc. Below are a few of my favorite. Unfortunately, I could only find the column layout for three.

I finally have some time to edit and tone images from my whirlwind experience while working in the newspaper industry. I was so used to getting images processed within minutes for daily deadlines. Now I can actually go back and really see what I shot. Here's an old image ran through my new layered process...It was shot with a Nikon d2h and a Lensbaby.

I've been a little obsessed with artsy photoshop layers lately as you can tell from below. I've also been shooting a bit differently now that I have a new camera system with new lenses. (I have to say the 5d is the best camera I've shot with, easily outperforming any Nikon camera I've used in the past 6 years.) I've also incorporated a 1.4 lens into my bag, an aperture I've never shot with before. I'm pretty much settled in at my new job, but still itching to shoot...so I've been bringing my camera around campus with me. Here's two images from the new chapel that is being built. The second image is of Dr. Anthony Cernera, president of Sacred Heart University.

Sorry for the lack of updates... I've been busy adjusting (check out the time stamp below) to my new job and schedule, which is going well. I also bought a Canon 5d and couldn't be happier with the image quality.

I resigned from the Connecticut Post last Friday and I will be transitioning into a career in the related field of public relations. As of November 12, I will be Communications Coordinator at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. The opportunity comes at an ideal time as the shaky newspaper industry continues to implode - even the staff position I am leaving will not be filled. My new responsibilities will focus around media relations, production of the university's publications, and looking good in a suit and tie everyday. I will be doing some light shooting at the job, but I'll be freelancing and shooting weddings on weekends (which I'll have off consistently for the first time since 2001.) I plan to work on some personal projects as well and will be posting the work on my site and this blog. Stay tuned.

I was digging through some work from last year and found this gem. The story never ran and Mr. Liska never graced the pages of the Connecticut Post with his Oriental Frill Pigeons in hand. Last October, he invited me over to his home for this story and we talked for quite awhile - mostly about life and very little about pigeons. So here is Mr. Liska making his debut to the half of a dozen readers of my blog.

Chimneys Mansion: Interior Design Photography is hard work and very technical. Lighting these rooms correctly takes so much planning, patience, and preparation. It's not the "fly by the seat of your pants" photography I'm accustomed to, but it pays the bills.
